Gas Assisted Flares

Open Biogas Flare Stack

Gas Assisted Flares

A gas-assisted flare uses an auxiliary fuel gas (usually natural gas or propane) injected at the flare tip to enhance mixing and combustion of waste gases. This system is particularly effective for low-pressure, low-BTU, or inert-rich gases that would otherwise burn poorly or produce smoke. Gas-assisted flares are widely applied in refineries, petrochemical plants, landfills, and biogas facilities.

Key Features of an Air-Assisted Flare:

Feature Description
Fuel Gas Injection Uses additional gas streams to improve combustion quality.
Flame Stability Ensures stable ignition even with difficult-to-burn waste gases.
Smokeless Burning Reduces smoke and soot formation across various gas compositions.
Flexibility Handles a wide range of gas flows, including very low-BTU streams.
Compliance Meets environmental emission standards (EPA, OSHA, and local regulations).

Typical Uses:
  • Landfill and biogas facilities (methane + COâ‚‚ mixtures)
  • Oil & gas operations with low-BTU waste gases
  • Petrochemical facilities handling off-gases with inert dilution
  • Tank venting where waste gases are not self-sustaining for combustion
  • Emergency flaring with variable gas composition
Advantages:
  • Smokeless combustion across wide gas ranges
  • Effective for low-BTU gases that non-assisted flares cannot burn efficiently
  • Improved flame stability under variable operating conditions
  • Cost-effective alternative to steam-assisted systems in smaller operations

Pilot Burner

Ignition of waste gas from pipe flares, air and steam assisted flares and ground flares

For most flare systems the pilot burner cannot be accessed for service. Maintenance or replacement is not possible while the flare is in operation. To safeguard operation, Super fabtech india’s pilots provide reliable ignition and stable burning even under the most difficult climate conditions.
